Celebrating the Harvest: November Word & Deed
Last month I invited the congregation to join me in praying Matthew 9:37-38: [Jesus] said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38) therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”” I want to celebrate how we witnessed God answering our prayers as we prayed them! On Laity Sunday, our Lay Leader Steve Kilgore shared a powerful call to perseverance in prayer based on Luke 18. The following Sunday, our church youth led us in worship through prayer, scripture and song. Youth Minister, Corey Railey preached for the first time in 20 years since he began preaching as a youth in local UM churches. Then, Corey and Krystal, both vital leaders in the ministry with the youth of our church, “made it official” by joining us in membership. God is truly sending workers for the harvest! While our formal discipline of interrupting our mornings to pray each day at 9:38am ended last month, we must continue to to obey Jesus’ command to pray for workers for his harvest. God is at work in our community and the world, and we don’t want to miss out on joining him!
